Our History

Albert’s House was founded by Phil Thomas, following his personal enthusiasm for property and interiors after a career devoted to delivering multi-million pound projects for household names in creative industries.

Alongside his professional career, Phil has spent the past two decades developing property and sourcing interiors. With three children and a golden retriever, Phil’s obsession for authentic design and quality couple with his thoughtful and considerate approach to produce inspiring yet practical solutions.

Albert’s House benefits hugely from this uniquely rounded experience, giving an understanding of the process and potential pitfalls, from both contractor’s and client’s perspective.

Our Approach

We spend time getting to know our clients and develop a feel for your style, lifestyle, tastes and aspirations. Through open dialogue we build a picture of you, your space and exactly how you want it to be used.

Every house and every client has their own unique character. An Albert’s House project will respect and reflect that. Success comes from getting the balance right. The balance of individuality and practicality; of heritage and modernity; of dream and delivery.

Once we agree on a shared vision, we approach the project with the perspective of a client – with a client’s resistance to compromise.

Using the best operators across all trades and professions, we commit to give an outstanding experience through integrity, responsive service and the highest levels of craftsmanship.

Our Role

Project management and the clear interpretation of a client’s needs are crucial to all refurbishments. Without it, projects can overrun to time and budget, becoming a very stressful experience.

Employing a project manager will save you both time and money, allowing you to keep your daily routine, whilst ensuring your project is run efficiently and you are kept informed throughout the process.

By employing me as your project manager, I can build the best team to facilitate your project and realise your dream.

My preferred contractors will factor effective project management into their quotes, offering favourable costs versus contacting them direct.

Combined with cost effective design and sourcing, much of a project manager’s cost can be recouped throughout the project.

Our Process

STEP 1

Discovery and Architectural Design

Through discovery meetings at the property, I will take the time to fully understand your requirements and offer clear, honest guidance and advice.

Working closely with you, we can ensure that all details are covered, to clarify the vision and provide the optimum concept solution. Where required, we’ll introduce you to appropriate architects for your build.

When designs perfectly fit your requirements, the architect will submit the palnning application where needed.

STEP 2

Structural Design

Once floorplans and elevations are agreed, I will brief the structural engineer to produce drawings and calculations and, if necessary, brief the party wall surveyor to write and serve party wall notices.

STEP 3

Specification of Works

A detailed specification of your requirements is then created by room and trade. This will include construction, electrics, plumbing, heating and finishes.

STEP 4

Build Tender

A short list of preferred contractors will be asked to provide quotes based on the architect’s drawings, structural calculations and specification.

Submitted quotes are reviewed and a final selection is made.

A JCT industry standard contract is drawn up including start and completion dates, payment schedule and program of works.

STEP 5

Interior Designs

I can have as much or as little involvement in the interior design as you require.
This stage will cover lighting, electrical and AV. Kitchens and bathrooms, fixtures and fittings, joinery, colour schemes and furniture.

My service includes all design and sourcing, with trade relationships often enabling favourable pricing.

STEP 6

Project Management

I will be the main point of contact for all contractors and trades, ensuring that they understand and deliver exactly to brief.

I will order fixtures and fittings to keep to schedule and manage the snagging process.

Variations to the specification during works will be managed by me, to ensure control of the budget and schedule, with clear and timely communication back to clients to be certain they remain fully briefed.
